Psalms 81:1-16A Call to Obedience

Ps.81.1-16
1[For the choirmaster. According to the Gittith . Of Asaph.] 2Sing for joy to God our strength; shout aloud to the God of Jacob! 3Raise a song and sound the tambourine, the sweet lyre with the harp. 4Blow the ram's horn at the new moon, and at the full moon, on the day of our feast. 5For it is a statute for Israel, an ordinance of the God of Jacob. 6He established it as a testimony in Joseph, when he went out against the land of Egypt. I heard a language I did not know: 7"I removed the burden from his shoulder; his hands were freed from the basket. 8In distress you called out, and I rescued you; I answered you in the secret place of thunder; I tested you at the waters of Meribah. Selah . 9Hear, O my people, and I will solemnly admonish you! O Israel, if only you would listen to me! 10There shall be no foreign god among you, nor shall you bow down to an alien god. 11I am the LORD your God, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt. Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it. 12But my people did not listen to my voice, and Israel would not submit to me. 13So I gave them over to the stubbornness of their hearts, to walk in their own counsels. 14If only my people would listen to me, if Israel would walk in my ways! 15I would quickly subdue their enemies, and turn my hand against their adversaries. 16Those who hate the LORD would cringe before him, and their time of punishment would last forever."
