Psalms 41:1-13 — A Prayer in Sickness

Ps.41.1-13

¹For the choirmaster . A psalm of David. ²Blessed is the one who gives thought to the poor; in the day of trouble the LORD will deliver him. ³The LORD will guard him and keep him alive; he will be called blessed in the land. Do not hand him over to the desire of his enemies. ⁴The LORD will sustain him on his sickbed; in his illness you restore his whole bed. ⁵As for me, I said, 'O LORD, be gracious to me; heal me, for I have sinned against you.' ⁶My enemies speak evil against me: 'When will he die, and his name perish?' ⁷If one comes to see me, he speaks falsehood; his heart gathers wickedness within itself; then he goes outside and tells it. ⁸All who hate me whisper together against me; against me they plot evil. ⁹'A deadly thing has been poured out on him; now that he lies down, he will never rise again.' ¹⁰Even my close friend, in whom I trusted, who ate my bread, has lifted his heel against me . ¹¹But you, O LORD, be gracious to me and raise me up, that I may repay them. ¹²By this I know that you delight in me: because my enemy does not triumph over me. ¹³As for me, you uphold me in my integrity, and set me in your presence forever .
