Psalms 107:1-43 — Thanksgiving for Deliverance

Ps.107.1-43

¹Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever. ²Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, those whom he redeemed from the hand of the foe, ³and gathered from the lands, from east and from west, from north and from south . ⁴They wandered in the wilderness, in a desolate way; they found no city to dwell in. ⁵Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted within them. ⁶Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distresses. ⁷He led them by a straight way, until they came to a city to dwell in. ⁸Let them give thanks to the LORD for his steadfast love and for his wondrous works to the children of man. ⁹For he satisfied the longing soul, and the hungry soul he filled with good things. ¹⁰Those dwelling in darkness and deep darkness, prisoners in affliction and irons, ¹¹for they had rebelled against the words of God and despised the counsel of the Most High. ¹²So he humbled their hearts with toil; they stumbled, and there was none to help. ¹³Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he saved them from their distresses. ¹⁴He brought them out of darkness and deep darkness and tore apart their bonds. ¹⁵Let them give thanks to the LORD for his steadfast love and for his wondrous works to the children of man. ¹⁶For he shattered doors of bronze and cut down bars of iron. ¹⁷Fools, because of the way of their transgression and because of their iniquities, suffered affliction. ¹⁸Their soul abhorred every kind of food, and they drew near to the gates of death. ¹⁹Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he saved them from their distresses. ²⁰He sent his word and healed them, and rescued them from their destruction . ²¹Let them give thanks to the LORD for his steadfast love and for his wondrous works to the children of man. ²²Let them offer sacrifices of thanksgiving and declare his deeds with joyful singing. ²³Those who go down to the sea in ships, doing business on great waters, ²⁴they saw the works of the LORD and his wonders in the deep. ²⁵For he spoke and raised up a storm wind, which lifted up its waves. ²⁶They went up to the heavens, they went down to the depths; their soul melted away in their trouble. ²⁷They reeled and staggered like a drunkard, and all their wisdom came to nothing. ²⁸Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he brought them out from their distresses. ²⁹He made the storm be still, and its waves were hushed. ³⁰Then they were glad that they were quiet, and he guided them to the harbor they desired. ³¹Let them give thanks to the LORD for his steadfast love and for his wondrous works to the children of man. ³²Let them exalt him in the assembly of the people, and praise him in the council of the elders. ³³He turns rivers into a wilderness, and springs of water into thirsty ground, ³⁴a fruitful land into a salt waste, because of the evil of those who dwell in it. ³⁵He turns a wilderness into a pool of water, and dry land into springs of water. ³⁶There he causes the hungry to dwell, and they establish a city to live in. ³⁷They sow fields and plant vineyards, and gather a fruitful yield. ³⁸He blesses them, and they multiply greatly; he does not let their cattle diminish. ³⁹Then they were diminished and brought low through oppression, calamity, and sorrow. ⁴⁰He pours contempt on nobles and makes them wander in a trackless waste. ⁴¹But he sets the needy on high from affliction and makes their families like a flock. ⁴²The upright see it and rejoice, and all injustice shuts its mouth. ⁴³Whoever is wise, let him heed these things and consider the acts of steadfast love of the LORD.
