Psalms 60:1-12 — A Prayer After Defeat
Ps.60.1-12
1For the choirmaster. To the tune of “The Lily of the Testimony.” A Miktam of David, for instruction. 2When he fought Aram-naharaim and Aram-zobah, and Joab returned and struck down twelve thousand of Edom in the Valley of Salt. 3O God, you have rejected us, you have broken us; you have been angry; restore us! 4You have made the land quake, you have torn it open; heal its fractures, for it is tottering. 5You have shown your people hardship; you have made us drink wine that makes us stagger. 6You have given a banner to those who fear you, to be displayed because of the truth. Selah . 7So that your beloved may be delivered, save with your right hand and answer me! 8God has spoken in his sanctuary: "I will exult! I will divide Shechem, and I will measure out the Valley of Succoth. 9Gilead is mine, and Manasseh is mine; Ephraim is the stronghold of my head , Judah is my scepter. 10Moab is my washbasin; upon Edom I will cast my sandal; shout in triumph over me, O Philistia !" 11Who will bring me to the fortified city? Who will lead me to Edom? 12Have you not rejected us, O God? And will you not go out, O God, with our armies?
