Psalms 50:1-23 — God the Judge
Ps.50.1-23
1A psalm of Asaph. The Mighty One, God, the LORD, speaks and summons the earth from the sunrise to its setting. 2From Zion, the perfection of beauty, God shines forth. 3Our God comes and will not be silent; a fire devours before him, and around him a great tempest rages. 4He summons the heavens above, and the earth, to judge his people: 5“Gather my faithful ones to me, those who made a covenant with me by sacrifice.” 6And the heavens declare his righteousness, for God himself is judge. Selah. 7"Hear, my people, and I will speak; O Israel, and I will testify against you. I am God, your God. 8I do not rebuke you for your sacrifices, and your burnt offerings are continually before me. 9I will not take a bull from your house, nor male goats from your folds. 10For every wild animal of the forest is mine, the cattle on a thousand hills. 11I know every bird of the mountains, and the creatures of the field are mine. 12If I were hungry , I would not tell you, for the world and its fullness are mine. 13Do I eat the flesh of bulls, or drink the blood of male goats? 14Offer to God a sacrifice of thanksgiving, and fulfill your vows to the Most High. 15And call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor me." 16But to the wicked God says: "What right have you to recite my statutes, and to take my covenant upon your lips? 17For you hate discipline, and you cast my words behind you. 18When you see a thief, you consent with him, and your portion is with adulterers. 19You unleash your mouth for evil, and your tongue frames deceit. 20You sit and speak against your brother; you slander your own mother's son. 21These things you have done, and I kept silent; you thought that I was just like you. I will rebuke you and lay the charge before your eyes. 22Consider this now, you who forget God, lest I tear you to pieces, and there be no one to deliver. 23Whoever offers a sacrifice of thanksgiving honors me; and to him who orders his way aright, I will show the salvation of God ."
