Psalms 140:1-13 — A Prayer for Deliverance
Ps.140.1-13
1For the choirmaster. A psalm of David. 2Rescue me, O LORD, from the evil man; preserve me from the man of violence, 3who devise evil in their hearts; all day long they stir up wars. 4They sharpen their tongues like a serpent; the venom of a viper is under their lips. Selah. 5Guard me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked; preserve me from the man of violence, who scheme to trip my feet. 6The proud have hidden a snare for me, and cords; they have spread a net beside the path; they have set traps for me. Selah. 7I said to the LORD, 'You are my God.' Listen, O LORD, to the voice of my pleas. 8O LORD, my Lord, the strength of my salvation, you have covered my head in the day of battle. 9Do not grant, O LORD, the desires of the wicked; do not let their evil plan succeed, lest they be exalted. Selah. 10As for the head of those who surround me, let the mischief of their own lips cover them. 11Let burning coals fall upon them; let them be thrown into the fire, into miry pits, never to rise again. 12Let no slanderer be established in the land; let evil hunt down the man of violence to overthrow him. 13I know that the LORD will carry out vindication for the afflicted, and justice for the needy.
