Psalms 18:1-50David's Song of Deliverance

Ps.18.1-50
1For the choirmaster. Of the servant of the LORD, of David, who spoke the words of this song to the LORD on the day the LORD delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul. 2And he said: I love you, O LORD, my strength. 3The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. 4I call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised, and I am saved from my enemies. 5The cords of death encompassed me, and the torrents of destruction terrified me. 6The cords of Sheol surrounded me; the snares of death confronted me. 7In my distress I called upon the LORD, and I cried to my God for help. From his temple he heard my voice, and my cry for help before him reached his ears. 8Then the earth shook and quaked, and the foundations of the mountains trembled; they were shaken because he was angry. 9Smoke rose from his nostrils, and consuming fire came from his mouth; glowing coals blazed from him. 10He bowed the heavens and came down, and thick darkness was under his feet. 11He rode upon a cherub and flew; he soared upon the wings of the wind. 12He made darkness his hiding place, his canopy around him, a darkness of waters, thick clouds of the skies. 13From the brightness before him his thick clouds passed by, with hailstones and coals of fire. 14The LORD thundered in the heavens, and the Most High uttered his voice, with hailstones and coals of fire. 15He sent out his arrows and scattered them; he shot many lightning bolts and routed them. 16Then the channels of water appeared, and the foundations of the world were laid bare, at your rebuke, O LORD, at the blast of the breath of your nostrils. 17He reached down from on high, he took hold of me; he drew me out of many waters. 18He rescued me from my strong enemy, and from those who hated me, for they were too mighty for me. 19They confronted me in the day of my calamity, but the LORD was my support. 20He brought me out into a broad place; he rescued me, because he delighted in me. 21The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands he repaid me. 22For I have kept the ways of the LORD, and have not wickedly departed from my God. 23For all his judgments were before me, and I did not put away his statutes from me. 24I was blameless before him, and I kept myself from my iniquity. 25So the LORD repaid me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in his sight. 26With the loyal you show yourself loyal; with the blameless mighty man you show yourself blameless; 27With the pure you show yourself pure, and with the crooked you show yourself shrewd. 28For you save an afflicted people, but haughty eyes you bring down. 29For you light my lamp; the LORD my God illumines my darkness. 30For by you I can run against a troop, and by my God I can leap over a wall. 31As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is flawless. He is a shield to all who take refuge in him. 32For who is God besides the LORD? And who is a rock except our God? 33The God who arms me with strength, and makes my way perfect. 34He makes my feet like those of a deer, and sets me upon my high places. 35He trains my hands for battle, so that my arms can bend a bow of bronze. 36You have given me the shield of your salvation, and your right hand sustains me, and your gentleness makes me great. 37You broaden the path beneath me, and my ankles have not slipped. 38I pursued my enemies and overtook them, and I did not turn back until they were consumed. 39I crushed them so that they could not rise; they fell under my feet. 40For you armed me with strength for the battle; you subdued my adversaries beneath me. 41You made my enemies turn their backs to me, and I destroyed those who hated me. 42They cried for help, but there was no one to save them; they cried to the LORD, but he did not answer them. 43I beat them fine as dust before the wind; I emptied them out like mud in the streets. 44You delivered me from the strife of the people; you made me the head of the nations; a people I had not known served me. 45As soon as they heard of me, they obeyed me; foreigners came cringing to me. 46Foreigners lost heart, and came trembling out of their strongholds. 47The LORD lives, and blessed be my rock! And exalted be the God of my salvation, 48The God who executes vengeance for me, and subdues peoples under me, 49Who delivers me from my enemies; indeed, you exalt me above my adversaries; you rescue me from the violent man. 50Therefore I will give thanks to you, O LORD, among the nations, and I will sing praises to your name.
