Psalms 40:1-17Thanksgiving and a Cry for Help

Ps.40.1-17
1For the choirmaster. Of David. A Psalm. 2I waited patiently for the LORD; he bent down to me and heard my cry. 3He brought me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog; he set my feet on a rock and made my steps secure. 4He put a new song in my mouth, praise to our God; many will see and fear, and they will trust in the LORD. 5Blessed is the man who has made the LORD his trust, and has not turned to the arrogant or to those who go astray in falsehood. 6Many are the wonders you have done, LORD my God, and your thoughts toward us; none can compare with you. If I would declare and speak of them, they are too many to count. 7Sacrifice and offering you did not desire; you have opened my ears . Burnt offering and sin offering you did not require. 8Then I said, “Behold, I have come; in the scroll of the book it is written concerning me.” 9I delight to do your will, my God, and your law is within my heart. 10I have proclaimed good news of righteousness in the great assembly; behold, I have not restrained my lips, LORD, as you know. 11I have not hidden your righteousness within my heart; I have spoken of your faithfulness and your salvation; I have not concealed your steadfast love and your truth from the great assembly. 12As for you, LORD, do not withhold your compassion from me; let your steadfast love and your truth continually preserve me. 13For evils beyond number have surrounded me; my iniquities have overtaken me, and I cannot see; they are more than the hairs of my head, and my heart fails me. 14Be pleased, LORD, to deliver me; LORD, hurry to help me. 15Let those who seek my life to destroy it be ashamed and humiliated together; let those who delight in my harm turn back and be disgraced. 16Let those who say to me, “Aha, aha!” be appalled because of their shame. 17Let all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you; let those who love your salvation say continually, “Great is the LORD!”
