Psalms 31:1-24 — A Prayer of Trust
Ps.31.1-24
1For the choirmaster. A Psalm of David. 2In you, O LORD, I have taken refuge; let me never be put to shame; by your righteousness deliver me. 3Incline your ear to me; quickly rescue me. Be for me a rock of refuge, a fortified house to save me. 4For you are my rock and my fortress; for the sake of your name, lead me and guide me. 5Bring me out of the net they have hidden for me, for you are my stronghold. 6Into your hand I commit my spirit; you have redeemed me, O LORD, God of truth. 7I hate those who cling to empty vanities, but I trust in the LORD. 8I will exult and rejoice in your steadfast love, for you have seen my affliction; you have known the distresses of my soul. 9You have not delivered me into the hand of the enemy; you have set my feet in a broad place. 10Be gracious to me, O LORD, for I am in distress; my eye grows dim with grief, my soul and my body as well. 11For my life is spent with sorrow and my years with sighing; my strength fails because of my iniquity, and my bones waste away. 12Because of all my adversaries I have become a reproach, especially to my neighbors, and an object of dread to my acquaintances; those who see me in the street flee from me. 13I am forgotten like a dead man, out of heart and mind; I have become like a ruined vessel. 14For I hear the whispering of many: terror on every side ! As they conspire together against me, they scheme to take my life. 15But I trust in you, O LORD; I say, “You are my God.” 16My times are in your hand; rescue me from the hand of my enemies and from my pursuers. 17Make your face shine upon your servant; save me in your steadfast love. 18O LORD, let me not be put to shame, for I call upon you; let the wicked be put to shame; let them go silent to Sheol. 19Let lying lips be silenced, which speak insolently against the righteous with pride and contempt. 20How great is your goodness, which you have stored up for those who fear you, which you have worked for those who take refuge in you before the children of man. 21You hide them in the secret of your presence from the conspiracies of man; you store them in a shelter from the strife of tongues. 22Blessed be the LORD, for he has shown his wondrous steadfast love to me in a besieged city . 23As for me, I said in my alarm, “I am cut off from before your eyes.” Yet you heard the voice of my pleas for mercy when I cried out to you. 24Love the LORD, all his faithful ones. The LORD preserves the faithful and fully repays the one who acts arrogantly.
