Luke.24.13-35

¹³And behold, two of them were going on that very day to a village named Emmaus, which was sixty stadia from Jerusalem. ¹⁴And they were talking with each other about all these things that had happened. ¹⁵And it happened that while they were talking and discussing, Jesus himself drew near and went with them. ¹⁶But their eyes were kept so that they did not recognize him. ¹⁷And he said to them, “What are these words that you are exchanging with one another as you walk?” And they stood still, looking sad. ¹⁸Then one named Cleopas answered and said to him, “Are you the only visitor to Jerusalem who does not know the things that have happened there in these days?” ¹⁹And he said to them, “What things?” And they said to him, "The things concerning Jesus of Nazareth, who was a prophet, mighty in deed and word before God and all the people, ²⁰and how our chief priests and rulers delivered him up to a sentence of death, and crucified him. ²¹But we were hoping that he was the one who was going to redeem Israel. Yes, and besides all this, it is now the third day since these things happened. ²²Moreover, some women from our group astounded us. Having arrived early at the tomb, ²³and when they did not find his body, they came saying that they had also seen a vision of angels, who said that he was alive. ²⁴And some of those with us went to the tomb, and found it just as the women had said, but him they did not see." ²⁵And he said to them, "O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! ²⁶Was it not necessary for the Christ to suffer these things and to enter into his glory?" ²⁷And beginning from Moses and from all the Prophets, he explained to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself. ²⁸And they drew near to the village where they were going, and he acted as if he were going further. ²⁹But they urged him, saying, “Stay with us, for it is toward evening, and the day is already far spent.” And he went in to stay with them. ³⁰And it happened that while he was reclining at the table with them, he took the bread, blessed it, and breaking it, he gave it to them. ³¹Then their eyes were opened, and they recognized him; and he vanished from their sight. ³²And they said to one another, “Were not our hearts burning within us as he spoke to us on the road, as he opened the Scriptures to us?” ³³And they rose up that very hour and returned to Jerusalem, and they found the Eleven and those with them gathered together, ³⁴saying, “The Lord is indeed risen, and has appeared to Simon!” ³⁵Then the two related the things that happened on the road, and how he was recognized by them in the breaking of the bread.
