Luke 24:13-35On the Road to Emmaus

Luke.24.13-35
13And behold, two of them were going on that very day to a village named Emmaus, which was sixty stadia from Jerusalem. 14And they were talking with each other about all these things that had happened. 15And it happened that while they were talking and discussing, Jesus himself drew near and went with them. 16But their eyes were kept so that they did not recognize him. 17And he said to them, “What are these words that you are exchanging with one another as you walk?” And they stood still, looking sad. 18Then one named Cleopas answered and said to him, “Are you the only visitor to Jerusalem who does not know the things that have happened there in these days?” 19And he said to them, “What things?” And they said to him, "The things concerning Jesus of Nazareth, who was a prophet, mighty in deed and word before God and all the people, 20and how our chief priests and rulers delivered him up to a sentence of death, and crucified him. 21But we were hoping that he was the one who was going to redeem Israel. Yes, and besides all this, it is now the third day since these things happened. 22Moreover, some women from our group astounded us. Having arrived early at the tomb, 23and when they did not find his body, they came saying that they had also seen a vision of angels, who said that he was alive. 24And some of those with us went to the tomb, and found it just as the women had said, but him they did not see." 25And he said to them, "O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! 26Was it not necessary for the Christ to suffer these things and to enter into his glory?" 27And beginning from Moses and from all the Prophets, he explained to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself. 28And they drew near to the village where they were going, and he acted as if he were going further. 29But they urged him, saying, “Stay with us, for it is toward evening, and the day is already far spent.” And he went in to stay with them. 30And it happened that while he was reclining at the table with them, he took the bread, blessed it, and breaking it, he gave it to them. 31Then their eyes were opened, and they recognized him; and he vanished from their sight. 32And they said to one another, “Were not our hearts burning within us as he spoke to us on the road, as he opened the Scriptures to us?” 33And they rose up that very hour and returned to Jerusalem, and they found the Eleven and those with them gathered together, 34saying, “The Lord is indeed risen, and has appeared to Simon!” 35Then the two related the things that happened on the road, and how he was recognized by them in the breaking of the bread.
