Luke 21:5-28 — Signs of the End of the Age
Luke.21.5-28
5While some were speaking about the temple, how it was adorned with beautiful stones and votive offerings, he said, 6As for these things that you see, days will come when not one stone will be left upon another that will not be torn down. 7And they asked him, “Teacher, when then will these things happen, and what will be the sign when these things are about to take place?” 8And he said, “See that you are not led astray. For many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am he,’ and, ‘The time has drawn near.’ Do not go after them. 9And when you hear of wars and uprisings, do not be terrified. For these things must happen first, but the end will not come immediately. 10Then he said to them, “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. 11There will be great earthquakes, and in various places plagues and famines, and terrors and great signs from heaven. 12But before all these things, they will lay their hands on you and persecute you, handing you over to synagogues and prisons, bringing you before kings and governors for the sake of my name. 13It will turn out for you as a testimony. 14Settle it therefore in your hearts not to prepare beforehand how to defend yourselves. 15For I will give you words and wisdom that all your adversaries will not be able to resist or contradict. 16And you will be handed over even by parents and brothers and relatives and friends, and they will put some of you to death. 17And you will be hated by everyone because of my name. 18But certainly not even a hair of your head will perish. 19By your endurance you will gain your lives . 20But when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then know that its desolation has drawn near. 21Then those in Judea must flee to the mountains, those inside the city must leave, and those in the countryside must not enter it. 22For these are days of vengeance, to fulfill all that has been written. 23Woe to those who are pregnant and to those nursing infants in those days! For there will be great distress upon the land and wrath against this people. 24And they will fall by the edge of the sword and be led captive into all the nations, and Jerusalem will be trampled by Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled. 25And there will be signs in sun and moon and stars, and on the earth distress of nations in perplexity at the roar of the sea and the surf. 26People fainting from fear and from expectation of the things coming upon the world; for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 27And then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. 28But when these things begin to happen, straighten up and lift up your heads , because your redemption is drawing near.
