Luke 23:26-43 — The Crucifixion of Jesus

Luke.23.26-43

²⁶As they led him away, they laid hold of a man, Simon of Cyrene, coming in from the countryside, and put the cross on him to carry behind Jesus. ²⁷And a great multitude of the people followed him, and women who were beating their breasts and lamenting him. ²⁸But Jesus turned to them and said, “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me; rather, weep for yourselves and for your children.” ²⁹For look, days are coming when they will say, “Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that did not bear, and the breasts that did not feed.” ³⁰Then they will begin to say to the mountains, “Fall on us,” and to the hills, “Cover us.” ³¹For if they do these things in the green wood, what will happen in the dry?" ³²And two other criminals were also being led away with him to be put to death. ³³And when they came to the place called The Skull, there they crucified him, and the criminals, one on the right and one on the left. ³⁴But Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing .” And dividing his garments among themselves, they cast lots. ³⁵And the people stood watching. But the rulers were ridiculing him, saying, “He saved others; let him save himself, if this is the Christ of God, the Chosen One.” ³⁶The soldiers also mocked him, coming up and offering him sour wine, ³⁷and saying, “If you are the King of the Jews, save yourself.” ³⁸And there was also an inscription over him: “This is the King of the Jews.” ³⁹And one of the hanged criminals was hurling insults at him, saying, “Are you not the Christ? Save yourself and us.” ⁴⁰But the other answered, rebuking him, “Do you not even fear God, since you are under the same sentence?” ⁴¹And we indeed justly, for we are receiving what our deeds deserve; but this man has done nothing wrong." ⁴²And he said, “Jesus , remember me when you come into your kingdom.” ⁴³And he said to him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in Paradise.”
