Luke 23:26-43 — The Crucifixion of Jesus
Luke.23.26-43
26As they led him away, they laid hold of a man, Simon of Cyrene, coming in from the countryside, and put the cross on him to carry behind Jesus. 27And a great multitude of the people followed him, and women who were beating their breasts and lamenting him. 28But Jesus turned to them and said, “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me; rather, weep for yourselves and for your children.” 29For look, days are coming when they will say, “Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that did not bear, and the breasts that did not feed.” 30Then they will begin to say to the mountains, “Fall on us,” and to the hills, “Cover us.” 31For if they do these things in the green wood, what will happen in the dry?" 32And two other criminals were also being led away with him to be put to death. 33And when they came to the place called The Skull, there they crucified him, and the criminals, one on the right and one on the left. 34But Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing .” And dividing his garments among themselves, they cast lots. 35And the people stood watching. But the rulers were ridiculing him, saying, “He saved others; let him save himself, if this is the Christ of God, the Chosen One.” 36The soldiers also mocked him, coming up and offering him sour wine, 37and saying, “If you are the King of the Jews, save yourself.” 38And there was also an inscription over him: “This is the King of the Jews.” 39And one of the hanged criminals was hurling insults at him, saying, “Are you not the Christ? Save yourself and us.” 40But the other answered, rebuking him, “Do you not even fear God, since you are under the same sentence?” 41And we indeed justly, for we are receiving what our deeds deserve; but this man has done nothing wrong." 42And he said, “Jesus , remember me when you come into your kingdom.” 43And he said to him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in Paradise.”
