Luke 9:10-17 — Jesus Feeds the Five Thousand
Luke.9.10-17
10When the apostles had returned, they related to him all that they had done. Taking them with him, he withdrew privately to a city called Bethsaida . 11But the crowds, learning of it, followed him. He welcomed them and spoke to them about the Kingdom of God, and he healed those who needed healing. 12Now the day began to decline, and the Twelve came and said to him, “Send the crowd away, so that they may go into the surrounding villages and countryside to find lodging and provisions, because we are here in a deserted place.” 13But he said to them, “You yourselves give them something to eat.” They said, “We have no more than five loaves and two fish, unless we are to go and buy food for all these people.” 14For there were about five thousand men . And he said to his disciples, “Have them sit down in groups of about fifty each.” 15And they did so, and had them all sit down. 16Then he took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, he blessed them and broke them, and kept giving them to the disciples to set before the crowd. 17And they all ate and were satisfied, and twelve baskets of fragments that were left over were picked up.
