Luke 12:13-21 — The Parable of the Rich Fool

Luke.12.13-21

¹³And someone from the crowd said to him, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me.” ¹⁴But he said to him, “Man, who appointed me judge or divider over you?” ¹⁵Then he said to them, “Watch out and guard yourselves from every kind of greed, because one’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.” ¹⁶And he told them a parable, saying, “The land of a certain rich man produced a plentiful harvest.” ¹⁷And he was reasoning within himself, saying, ‘What shall I do, because I have nowhere to gather my crops?’ ¹⁸And he said, ‘This is what I will do: I will pull down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will gather all my grain and my goods.’ ¹⁹And I will say to my soul, ‘Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years. Rest, eat, drink, be merry.’ ²⁰But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night they require your life from you . And the things you have prepared—whose will they be?’ ²¹So it is with the one who stores up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God.”
