Luke 4:14-30 — Jesus Rejected at Nazareth
Luke.4.14-30
14Then Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news about him spread through all the surrounding region. 15He taught in their synagogues, being glorified by everyone. 16And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up. As was his custom, he entered the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read. 17And the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling the scroll, he found the place where it was written: 18"The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set free those who are oppressed, 19to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord." 20Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant, and sat down. And the eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fixed on him. 21He began to say to them, “Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.” 22All bore witness to him and marveled at the words of grace proceeding from his mouth. And they said, “Is this not Joseph's son?” 23And he said to them, “Surely you will quote this proverb to me: 'Physician, heal yourself! Whatever we have heard happened in Capernaum, do also here in your hometown.'” 24Then he said, "Truly I tell you, no prophet is acceptable in his hometown. 25But in truth I tell you, there were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the sky was shut up for three years and six months, when a great famine came over all the land. 26Yet Elijah was sent to none of them, but only to Zarephath of Sidon, to a woman who was a widow. 27And there were many lepers in Israel in the time of Elisha the prophet, yet none of them was cleansed except Naaman the Syrian." 28And all the people in the synagogue were filled with wrath when they heard these things. 29They rose up, drove him out of the town, and led him to the brow of the hill on which their town was built, in order to throw him down the cliff. 30But passing through the midst of them , he went on his way .
