Matthew 27:11-26 — Jesus before Pilate
Matt.27.11-26
11Jesus stood before the governor, and the governor questioned him, saying, “Are you the King of the Jews?” Jesus said, “You yourself say so.” 12And when he was accused by the chief priests and elders, he gave no answer. 13Then Pilate said to him, “Do you not hear how many things they are testifying against you?” 14But he did not answer him with regard to even one word, so that the governor was greatly amazed. 15Now at the feast the governor was accustomed to release one prisoner to the crowd, whomever they wanted. 16At that time they had a notorious prisoner called Barabbas . 17So when they had gathered, Pilate said to them, “Which one do you want me to release to you: Barabbas, or Jesus who is called Christ?” 18For he knew that it was because of envy that they had handed him over. 19While he was sitting on the judgment seat , his wife sent word to him, saying, “Have nothing to do with that righteous man, for I have suffered much today in a dream because of him.” 20But the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowds to ask for Barabbas and to have Jesus put to death. 21The governor answered them, “Which of the two do you want me to release to you?” And they said, “Barabbas.” 22Pilate said to them, “What then should I do with Jesus who is called Christ?” They all said, “Let him be crucified.” 23But he said, “Why? What evil has he done?” But they kept shouting all the more, “Let him be crucified.” 24When Pilate saw that he was accomplishing nothing, but rather that an uproar was developing, he took water and washed his hands before the crowd, saying, “I am innocent of this blood . See to it yourselves.” 25And all the people answered, “His blood be on us and on our children.” 26Then he released Barabbas to them, but after flogging Jesus, he handed him over to be crucified.
