Matthew 21:23-32Authority Questioned; Two Sons

Matt.21.23-32
23And when he had entered the temple courts, the chief priests and the elders of the people approached him as he was teaching, saying, “By what authority are you doing these things? And who gave you this authority?” 24Jesus answered them, “I will also ask you one question. If you tell me the answer, I will also tell you by what authority I do these things. 25The baptism of John, where did it come from? From heaven or from men?” They deliberated among themselves, saying, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will say to us, ‘Why then did you not believe him?’ 26But if we say, ‘From men,’ we are afraid of the crowd, for they all hold John to be a prophet.” 27And answering Jesus, they said, “We do not know.” He also said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things. 28But what do you think? A man had two sons. Approaching the first, he said, ‘Son, go work today in the vineyard.’ 29He answered, ‘I will, sir,’ but he did not go. 30Then approaching the second, he said the same thing. He answered, ‘I will not,’ but later he changed his mind and went. 31Which of the two did the will of the father?” They say, “The latter .” Jesus says to them, “Truly I say to you that the tax collectors and the prostitutes are going ahead of you into the kingdom of God. 32For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes believed him. And even when you saw it, you did not change your minds afterward to believe him.
