Matthew 27:1-10 — Death of Judas
Matt.27.1-10
1Now when morning came, all the chief priests and the elders of the people took counsel against Jesus so as to put him to death. 2And they bound him, led him away, and handed him over to Pilate the governor. 3Then Judas, who had betrayed him, seeing that he was condemned, felt remorse and returned the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders, 4saying, “I have sinned by betraying innocent blood.” But they said, “What is that to us? You see to it yourself.” 5And throwing the pieces of silver into the temple, he departed, and went away and hanged himself. 6But the chief priests took the pieces of silver and said, “It is not lawful to put them into the treasury , since it is the price of blood.” 7And they took counsel and bought with them the potter's field as a burial place for foreigners. 8Therefore that field has been called the Field of Blood to this day. 9Then was fulfilled what was spoken through Jeremiah the prophet, saying: "And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him on whom a price had been set, whom some of the sons of Israel priced, 10and they gave them for the potter's field, just as the Lord commanded me."
