Acts 10:1-23Cornelius Calls for Peter

Acts.10.1-23
1Now a certain man in Caesarea named Cornelius, a centurion of the cohort called the Italian, 2a devout man and fearing God with all his household, doing many alms for the people and praying to God continually, 3saw clearly in a vision, at about the ninth hour of the day, an angel of God coming in to him and saying to him, 'Cornelius.' 4And staring at him and becoming terrified, he said, 'What is it, Lord?' And he said to him, 'Your prayers and your alms have ascended as a memorial before God. 5And now send men to Joppa and send for a certain Simon, who is called Peter . 6He is lodging with a certain Simon, a tanner, whose house is by the sea.' 7And when the angel who was speaking to him had departed, he called two of the household servants and a devout soldier from among those who continually attended him, 8and having explained everything to them, he sent them to Joppa. 9Now on the next day, as they were journeying and approaching the city, Peter went up on the housetop to pray at about noon. 10And he became hungry and wanted to eat; but while they were preparing, a trance came upon him, 11and he saw heaven opened and a certain object descending like a great sheet, being let down to the earth by four corners , 12in which were all kinds of four-footed animals and creeping things of the earth and birds of the sky. 13And a voice came to him: 'Rise, Peter, kill and eat.' 14But Peter said, 'By no means, Lord, for I have never eaten anything common and unclean.' 15And a voice came to him again a second time: 'What God has cleansed, do not call common.' 16And this happened three times, and immediately the object was taken up into heaven. 17Now while Peter was greatly perplexed within himself as to what the vision that he had seen might mean, behold, the men sent by Cornelius, having inquired for the house of Simon, stood at the gate, 18and calling out, they were asking whether Simon, who is called Peter, was lodging there. 19And while Peter was pondering about the vision, the Spirit said, 'Behold, two men are looking for you. 20But rise, go down, and go with them without hesitating, because I have sent them.' 21And Peter went down to the men and said, 'Look, I am the one you are seeking. What is the reason for which you are here?' 22And they said, 'Cornelius, a centurion, a righteous and God-fearing man, who is well spoken of by the whole nation of the Jews, was divinely instructed by a holy angel to send for you to his house and to hear words from you.' 23So having invited them in, he gave them lodging. And on the next day, having risen , he went out with them, and some of the brothers from Joppa accompanied him.
