Acts 22:22-29Paul the Roman Citizen

Acts.22.22-29
22They listened to him until this statement , and then they shouted, saying, “Away with such a person from the earth, for he is not fit to live!” 23As they were shouting and throwing off their cloaks and tossing dust into the air, 24the commander ordered him to be brought into the barracks, directing that he be interrogated by flogging, so that he might know for what reason they were shouting against him like this. 25But as they stretched him out with straps, Paul said to the centurion standing there, “Is it lawful for you to flog a man who is a Roman citizen and uncondemned?” 26When the centurion heard this, he went to the commander and reported it, saying, “What are you about to do? For this man is a Roman citizen.” 27So the commander came and said to him, “Tell me, are you a Roman citizen?” And he said, “Yes.” 28The commander answered, “I acquired this citizenship for a large sum of money.” But Paul said, “But I was born a citizen.” 29Immediately, therefore, those who were about to interrogate him stepped back from him; and the commander also became afraid when he realized that he was a Roman citizen and that he had bound him.
