Acts 15:36-16:5 — Disagreement; Timothy Joins Paul and Silas
Acts.15.36-16.5
36After some days, Paul said to Barnabas, “Let us go back and visit the brothers in every city where we proclaimed the word of the Lord, to see how they are doing.” 37Barnabas wanted to take along John, also called Mark. 38But Paul thought it best not to take him along, since he had deserted them in Pamphylia and had not gone with them to the work. 39And a sharp disagreement arose, so that they separated from one another. Barnabas took Mark and sailed away to Cyprus, 40but Paul chose Silas and left, having been commended to the grace of the Lord by the brothers. 41Paul traveled through Syria and Cilicia, strengthening the churches.
Chapter 16
1He came also to Derbe and to Lystra. A disciple named Timothy was there, the son of a believing Jewish woman , but his father was a Greek. 2He was well spoken of by the brothers in Lystra and Iconium. 3Paul wanted Timothy to go with him, so he took him and circumcised him because of the Jews who were in those places, for they all knew that his father was a Greek. 4As they traveled through the cities, they delivered to them the decrees decided by the apostles and elders in Jerusalem, for them to keep. 5So the churches were being strengthened in the faith and were increasing in number daily.
