Acts 21:27-36 — Paul Arrested
Acts.21.27-36
27Now when the seven days were almost completed, the Jews from Asia, when they saw him in the temple, stirred up the whole crowd and laid hands on him, 28crying out, “Men of Israel, help! This is the man who teaches everyone everywhere against the people and the law and this place. Furthermore, he even brought Greeks into the temple and has defiled this holy place.” 29For they had previously seen Trophimus the Ephesian in the city with him, whom they supposed that Paul had brought into the temple. 30The whole city was stirred up, and a rush of the people occurred. Seizing Paul, they dragged him out of the temple, and immediately the doors were shut. 31While they were trying to kill him, a report went up to the commander of the cohort that all Jerusalem was in confusion. 32He immediately took along soldiers and centurions and ran down to them. And when they saw the commander and the soldiers, they stopped beating Paul. 33Then the commander came near, arrested him, and ordered that he be bound with two chains. And he began asking who he was and what he had done. 34But some in the crowd were shouting one thing, and some another. And since he could not learn the facts because of the uproar, he ordered him to be brought into the barracks. 35When he came to the stairs, it happened that he had to be carried by the soldiers because of the violence of the crowd; 36for the multitude of the people kept following, shouting, “Away with him!”
