Acts 18:1-17 — In Corinth
Acts.18.1-17
1After these things, he left Athens and came to Corinth. 2There he found a Jew named Aquila, a native of Pontus, who had recently come from Italy with his wife Priscilla because Claudius had ordered all the Jews to depart from Rome; and he went to them. 3Because he was of the same trade, he stayed with them and worked, for they were tentmakers by trade. 4Every Sabbath he reasoned in the synagogue and tried to persuade Jews and Greeks. 5When Silas and Timothy came down from Macedonia, Paul was occupied with the word, solemnly testifying to the Jews that Jesus is the Christ. 6But when they opposed him and reviled him, he shook out his garments and said to them, “Your blood be on your own heads. I am innocent. From now on I will go to the Gentiles.” 7So he left there and entered the house of a man named Titius Justus , who worshiped God; his house was next door to the synagogue. 8Crispus, the synagogue leader, believed in the Lord together with his whole household. And many of the Corinthians, when they heard, believed and were baptized. 9And the Lord said to Paul in the night by a vision, "Do not be afraid, but speak, and do not be silent, 10for I am with you, and no one will attack you to harm you, for I have many people in this city." 11And he stayed a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them. 12But when Gallio was proconsul of Achaia, the Jews rose up together against Paul and brought him before the judgment seat, 13saying, “This man is persuading people to worship God contrary to the law.” 14But when Paul was about to open his mouth, Gallio said to the Jews, "If it were some wrongdoing or vicious crime, O Jews, I would have reason to put up with you. 15But if they are questions about words and names and your own law, see to it yourselves; I do not wish to be a judge of these things." 16And he drove them away from the judgment seat. 17Then they all seized Sosthenes, the synagogue leader , and kept beating him in front of the judgment seat. But Gallio paid no attention to any of this.
