Acts 24:1-27Paul's Trial Before Felix

Acts.24.1-27
1Five days later the high priest Ananias came down with some elders and a certain advocate named Tertullus, and they presented their case against Paul to the governor. 2When Paul was summoned, Tertullus began to accuse him, saying: "Since we experience much peace through you, and since reforms are being brought to this nation through your foresight, 3we acknowledge it in every way and everywhere, most excellent Felix, with all gratitude. 4But so that I do not delay you any further, I urge you to hear us briefly in your graciousness. 5For we have found this man to be a plague, stirring up riots among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes. 6He even tried to desecrate the temple, so we arrested him . 8By examining him yourself, you will be able to learn about all these things of which we accuse him." 9The Jews also joined in the attack, asserting that these things were true. 10When the governor nodded for him to speak, Paul answered: "Knowing that you have been a judge over this nation for many years, I cheerfully make my defense. 11You can verify that it is not more than twelve days since I went up to worship in Jerusalem. 12They did not find me disputing with anyone or stirring up a crowd in the temple, nor in the synagogues, nor throughout the city. 13Nor can they prove to you the things of which they now accuse me. 14But I confess this to you, that according to the Way, which they call a sect, I worship the God of our fathers, believing everything that is in accordance with the Law and that is written in the Prophets. 15I have a hope in God, which these men themselves also await, that there will be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous. 16In view of this, I also strive always to have a clear conscience toward God and men. 17Now after several years, I came to bring alms to my nation and to present offerings. 18It was while I was doing this that they found me purified in the temple, not with a crowd nor with an uproar. 19But there are some Jews from Asia who ought to be present before you and to bring charges, if they have anything against me. 20Or else let these men themselves say what crime they found when I stood before the Sanhedrin, 21other than concerning this one statement I cried out while standing among them: 'It is concerning the resurrection of the dead that I am on trial before you today!'" 22But Felix, who had a more accurate knowledge concerning the Way, adjourned the hearing, saying, “When Lysias the commander comes down, I will decide your case.” 23He ordered the centurion to keep him in custody, but to allow him some freedom and not to forbid any of his friends to serve him. 24After some days, Felix arrived with his own wife Drusilla, who was Jewish. He sent for Paul and listened to him concerning faith in Christ Jesus. 25As Paul was reasoning about righteousness, self-control, and the coming judgment, Felix became terrified and answered, “Go away for now; when I find an opportunity, I will summon you.” 26At the same time, he was hoping that money would be given to him by Paul. Therefore, he sent for him more frequently and conversed with him. 27After two years had passed, Felix received a successor, Porcius Festus; and wishing to grant a favor to the Jews, Felix left Paul in prison.
