Acts 2:1-13 — The Holy Spirit Comes at Pentecost
Acts.2.1-13
1When the day of Pentecost had arrived, they were all together in the same place. 2And suddenly a sound came from heaven, like a violent rushing wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3And tongues as if of fire appeared to them, being distributed, and one rested on each of them. 4And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages as the Spirit gave them utterance. 5Now there were dwelling in Jerusalem devout Jews from every nation under heaven. 6And when this sound occurred, the crowd came together and was thrown into confusion, because each one heard them speaking in his own dialect. 7And they were astonished and were marveling, saying, “Look, are not these who are speaking Galileans?” 8And how is it that we hear, each of us in our own dialect in which we were born? 9Parthians and Medes and Elamites, and those dwelling in Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, 10Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene, and visitors from Rome, 11both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabs—we hear them speaking in our own languages the mighty works of God. 12And they were all astonished and perplexed, saying to one another, “What does this mean?” 13But others, sneering, were saying, “They are full of sweet wine.”
