Isaiah 15:1-16:14Prophecy Against Moab

Isa.15.1-16.14
1An oracle concerning Moab: Because in a night Ar of Moab is devastated, it is silenced; because in a night Kir of Moab is devastated, it is silenced. 2They go up to the temple , and Dibon to the high places to weep; Moab wails over Nebo and over Medeba. On every head is baldness; every beard is cut off. 3In its streets they clothe themselves with sackcloth; on its rooftops and in its public squares everyone wails, weeping profusely. 4Heshbon and Elealeh cry out; their voice is heard as far as Jahaz. Therefore the armed men of Moab cry aloud; his soul trembles within him. 5My heart cries out for Moab; her fugitives flee as far as Zoar, to Eglath-shelishiyah. For at the ascent of Luhith they go up with weeping; for on the road to Horonaim they raise a cry of destruction. 6For the waters of Nimrim are a desolation; for the grass is dried up, the new grass is gone, and there is no green thing. 7Therefore the abundance they have gained and what they have stored up, they carry away over the Brook of the Willows. 8For the cry has gone around the border of Moab; its wailing reaches to Eglaim, and its wailing to Beer-elim. 9For the waters of Dimon are full of blood; yet I will bring more upon Dimon: a lion upon the fugitives of Moab, and upon the remnant of the land.
Chapter 16
1Send lambs to the ruler of the land, from Sela by way of the wilderness, to the mountain of Daughter Zion. 2Like fluttering birds, like a scattered nest, so will the daughters of Moab be at the fords of the Arnon. 3Bring counsel, execute a ruling; set your shade like the night in the midst of noonday. Hide the outcasts; do not betray the fugitive. 4Let my outcasts dwell with you; as for Moab, be a hiding place for them from the face of the destroyer. For the oppressor is no more, destruction has ceased, and those who trample have vanished from the land. 5Then a throne will be established in steadfast love, and one will sit on it in faithfulness in the tent of David, judging and seeking justice, and swift to do righteousness. 6We have heard of the pride of Moab—how very proud he is!—of his haughtiness, his pride, and his arrogance; his boastings are empty. 7Therefore let Moab wail for Moab; let everyone wail. Mourn for the raisin cakes of Kir-hareseth, utterly stricken. 8For the fields of Heshbon languish, and the vine of Sibmah; the lords of the nations have struck down its choice branches, which reached as far as Jazer and wandered into the wilderness; its shoots spread out and passed over the sea. 9Therefore I weep with the weeping of Jazer for the vine of Sibmah; I drench you with my tears, O Heshbon and Elealeh; for upon your summer fruit and your harvest the battle shout has fallen. 10Joy and gladness are taken away from the fruitful field, and in the vineyards no songs are sung, no joyful shouts are raised; no treader treads out wine in the presses; I have made the shouting cease. 11Therefore my inner parts moan like a lyre for Moab, and my inmost being for Kir-heres. 12And it will come to pass, when Moab presents himself, when he wearies himself upon the high place, and comes to his sanctuary to pray, he will not prevail. 13This is the word that the LORD spoke concerning Moab in the past. 14But now the LORD speaks, saying, 'In three years, as a hired worker counts them, the glory of Moab will be brought into contempt , along with all his great multitude; and the remnant will be very few and feeble.'
