Isaiah 9:8-10:4The Lord's Anger Against Israel

Isa.9.8-10.4
8The Lord sent a word against Jacob, and it fell on Israel. 9All the people will come to know it—Ephraim and the inhabitants of Samaria—who say in pride and arrogance of heart: 10The bricks have fallen, but we will rebuild with hewn stone; the sycamores have been cut down, but we will replace them with cedars. 11So the LORD raised up Rezin’s adversaries against him and stirred up his enemies. 12Aram from the east and the Philistines from the west devoured Israel with open mouth. For all this his anger has not turned back, and his hand is still stretched out. 13Yet the people did not turn back to him who struck them, nor did they seek the LORD of Hosts. 14So the LORD cut off from Israel head and tail, palm branch and reed, in one day. 15The elder and honored man is the head, and the prophet who teaches lies is the tail. 16Those who lead this people lead them astray, and those who are led by them are swallowed up. 17Therefore the Lord does not rejoice over their young men, and he does not have compassion on their fatherless and widows; for everyone is godless and evil, and everyone speaks folly. For all this his anger has not turned back, and his hand is still stretched out. 18For wickedness burns like fire; it devours briars and thorns, kindles the thickets of the forest, and they roll upward in rising columns of smoke. 19Through the wrath of the LORD of Hosts the land is burned up, and the people become fuel for the fire; no one spares his brother. 20They cut on the right, but are still hungry; they eat on the left, but are not satisfied. Each one eats the flesh of his own arm. 21Manasseh devours Ephraim, and Ephraim Manasseh; together they are against Judah. For all this his anger has not turned back, and his hand is still stretched out.
Chapter 10
1Woe to those who decree wicked decrees, and to the writers who keep writing oppression, 2to deprive the poor of justice and rob the afflicted of my people of their right, so that widows may become their spoil and they may plunder the fatherless. 3What will you do in the day of punishment, in the devastation that comes from afar? To whom will you flee for help, and where will you leave your glory? 4Nothing remains but to crouch under the captives or fall beneath the slain. For all this his anger has not turned back, and his hand is still stretched out.
