Isaiah 43:1-28 — Israel's Only Savior
Isa.43.1-28
1But now, thus says Yahweh, he who created you, O Jacob , and he who formed you, O Israel: 'Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name, you are mine. 2When you pass through the waters, I will be with you, and through the rivers, they will not overwhelm you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be scorched, and the flame will not burn you. 3For I am Yahweh your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior; I have given Egypt as your ransom, Cush and Seba in your place. 4Because you are precious in my eyes, and honored, and I love you, I will give men in your place, and peoples in exchange for your life. 5Do not fear, for I am with you; I will bring your offspring from the east, and I will gather you from the west. 6I will say to the north, 'Give them up!' and to the south, 'Do not hold them back!' Bring my sons from afar, and my daughters from the ends of the earth— 7everyone who is called by my name, and whom I have created for my glory, whom I have formed, yes, whom I have made.' 8Bring out a people who are blind, yet have eyes, and who are deaf, yet have ears. 9All the nations are gathered together, and the peoples assemble. Who among them can declare this, and proclaim to us the former things? Let them bring their witnesses, so that they may be justified, and let them hear and say, 'It is true.' 10'You are my witnesses,' declares Yahweh, 'and my servant whom I have chosen, so that you may know and believe me, and understand that I am he. Before me no god was formed, and after me there will be none. 11I, I am Yahweh, and besides me there is no savior. 12I have declared, and I have saved, and I have proclaimed, and there was no foreign god among you; and you are my witnesses,' declares Yahweh, 'and I am God. 13Even from eternity I am he, and there is no one who can deliver out of my hand. I will act, and who can reverse it?' 14Thus says Yahweh, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: 'For your sake I have sent to Babylon, and I will bring them all down as fugitives, even the Chaldeans, in the ships of their rejoicing. 15I am Yahweh, your Holy One, the Creator of Israel, your King.' 16Thus says Yahweh, who makes a way in the sea, and a path in the mighty waters, 17who brings out chariot and horse, army and warrior; they lie down together, they will not rise; they are extinguished, they are quenched like a wick: 18'Do not remember the former things, and do not consider the things of old. 19Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert. 20The beasts of the field will honor me, the jackals and the ostriches, because I give water in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert, to give drink to my people, my chosen, 21the people whom I formed for myself; they will recount my praise. 22But you did not call upon me, O Jacob, because you grew weary of me, O Israel. 23You did not bring me the sheep of your burnt offerings, and you did not honor me with your sacrifices. I did not burden you with grain offerings, and I did not weary you with frankincense. 24You did not buy me sweet cane with silver, and you did not satisfy me with the fat of your sacrifices. But you burdened me with your sins; you wearied me with your iniquities. 25I, I am he who blots out your transgressions for my own sake, and I will not remember your sins. 26Remind me, let us contend together; declare your case, so that you may be justified. 27Your first father sinned, and your spokesmen rebelled against me. 28So I will profane the princes of the sanctuary, and I will hand over Jacob to destruction, and Israel to reproaches.'
