Isaiah 3:1-15 — Judgment on Jerusalem
Isa.3.1-15
1For look, the Lord, Yahweh of Armies, is removing from Jerusalem and from Judah staff and stay , every stay of bread and every stay of water; 2the mighty man and the warrior, the judge and the prophet, the diviner and the elder; 3the commander of fifty and the dignitary, the counselor, the skilled artisan, and the expert enchanter. 4I will make boys their princes, and capricious youths will rule over them. 5The people will oppress one another, each man against another and each against his neighbor; the youth will act proudly against the elder, and the base against the honorable. 6For a man will seize his brother in his father's house: 'You have a cloak; you shall be our ruler, and this ruin shall be under your hand.' 7In that day he will protest, saying, 'I will not be a healer; in my house there is neither bread nor a cloak. Do not make me ruler of the people.' 8For Jerusalem has stumbled and Judah has fallen, because their tongue and their deeds are against Yahweh, defying his glorious presence. 9The look on their faces testifies against them, and like Sodom they proclaim their sin; they do not hide it. Woe to them, for they have brought evil upon themselves. 10Say of the righteous that it will be well, for they will eat the fruit of their deeds. 11Woe to the wicked! It will go badly for him, for what his hands have done will be done to him. 12My people—children oppress them, and women rule over them. My people, those who lead you mislead you, and they swallow up the course of your paths. 13Yahweh stands up to contend; he stands to judge the peoples. 14Yahweh enters into judgment with the elders of his people and their princes: 'It is you who have devoured the vineyard; the plunder of the poor is in your houses.' 15'What do you mean by crushing my people and grinding the faces of the poor ?' declares the Lord, Yahweh of Armies.
