Isaiah 64:1-12A Prayer for Mercy

Isa.64.1-12
1Oh, that you would tear open the heavens and come down, so that the mountains would quake at your presence, 2as fire kindles brushwood and fire causes water to boil, to make your name known to your adversaries, so that the nations tremble at your presence! 3When you did awe-inspiring deeds that we did not expect, you came down; the mountains flowed down before you. 4From ancient times they have not heard, they have not listened; no eye has seen a God besides you, who acts for the one who waits for him. 5You meet the one who gladly does what is right, those who remember you in your ways. Look, you were angry, and we sinned; in them we have long remained, and shall we be saved? 6We have all become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous deeds are like a polluted garment. We all wither like a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind, carry us away. 7There is no one who calls on your name, who rouses himself to take hold of you; for you have hidden your face from us and have given us over to be dissolved by the hand of our iniquities. 8But now, YHWH, you are our Father; we are the clay, and you are our Potter; we are all the work of your hand. 9Do not be exceedingly angry, YHWH, and do not remember iniquity forever. Look now, we are all your people. 10Your holy cities have become a wilderness; Zion has become a wilderness, Jerusalem a desolation. 11Our holy and beautiful house, where our fathers praised you, has been burned with fire, and all our precious things have become ruins. 12Will you still restrain yourself after these things, YHWH? Will you keep silent and afflict us so very severely?
