Isaiah 54:1-17 — The Future Glory of Zion

Isa.54.1-17

¹Sing for joy, barren woman, you who have not borne; burst into joyful song and cry out, you who have not travailed, for more are the children of the desolate woman than the children of the married one, says Yahweh. ²Enlarge the place of your tent, and let the curtains of your dwellings be stretched out; do not hold back; lengthen your cords and strengthen your stakes. ³For you will spread out to the right and to the left, and your offspring will possess nations and settle desolate cities. ⁴Do not fear, for you will not be ashamed; do not be humiliated, for you will not be disgraced. For you will forget the shame of your youth, and you will remember the reproach of your widowhood no more. ⁵For your husband is your Maker; Yahweh of Armies is his name. The Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer; he will be called the God of all the earth. ⁶For Yahweh has called you like a wife forsaken and grieved in spirit, like a wife of youth when she is rejected, says your God. ⁷For a brief moment I forsook you, but with great compassion I will gather you. ⁸In a surge of wrath I hid my face from you for a moment, but with everlasting kindness I will have compassion on you, says Yahweh your Redeemer. ⁹For this is like the waters of Noah to me: as I swore that the waters of Noah would never again pass over the earth, so I have sworn that I will not be angry with you nor rebuke you. ¹⁰Though the mountains depart and the hills be shaken, my steadfast love will not depart from you, and my covenant of peace will not be shaken, says Yahweh, who has compassion on you. ¹¹Afflicted one, storm-tossed, not comforted, behold, I will set your stones in antimony and lay your foundations with sapphires. ¹²I will make your battlements of ruby, your gates of gleaming stone, and all your border of precious stones. ¹³All your children will be taught by Yahweh, and great will be the peace of your children. ¹⁴In righteousness you will be established; be far from oppression, for you will not fear, and from terror, for it will not come near you. ¹⁵If anyone stirs up strife, it is not from me; whoever stirs up strife against you will fall because of you. ¹⁶Behold, I myself created the blacksmith who blows on the fire of coals and brings out a weapon for its work; and I myself created the destroyer to ruin. ¹⁷No weapon formed against you will prevail, and every tongue that rises against you in judgment you will condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of Yahweh, and their vindication is from me, declares Yahweh.
