Isaiah 23:1-18Prophecy Against Tyre

Isa.23.1-18
1An oracle concerning Tyre: Wail, O ships of Tarshish, for Tyre is laid waste, without house or harbor! From the land of Kittim it has been revealed to them. 2Be silent, you inhabitants of the coastland, you whom the merchants of Sidon, who cross the sea, have filled. 3On great waters came the grain of Shihor; the harvest of the Nile was her revenue, and she became the marketplace of the nations. 4Be ashamed, O Sidon, for the sea has spoken, the stronghold of the sea, saying: “I have not been in labor, nor have I given birth; I have not raised young men, nor brought up young women.” 5When the report reaches Egypt, they will writhe in agony at the report about Tyre. 6Cross over to Tarshish; wail, you inhabitants of the coastland! 7Is this your jubilant city, whose origin is from days of old, whose feet carried her far away to settle? 8Who has planned this against Tyre, the bestower of crowns, whose merchants are princes, whose traders are the honored of the earth? 9Yahweh of Hosts has planned it, to defile the pride of all her glory, to bring into contempt all the honored of the earth. 10Pass through your land like the Nile , O Daughter of Tarshish; there is no longer any restraint. 11He has stretched out His hand over the sea; He has made kingdoms tremble. Yahweh has given a command concerning Canaan to destroy its strongholds. 12And He said, “You shall exult no more, O oppressed Virgin Daughter of Sidon. Arise, cross over to Kittim; even there you will find no rest.” 13Behold the land of the Chaldeans—this people is no more. Assyria destined it for desert creatures. They set up their siege towers, they stripped its palaces, and made it a ruin. 14Wail, O ships of Tarshish, for your stronghold is laid waste! 15On that day Tyre will be forgotten for seventy years, the span of a single king's life. At the end of seventy years, it will happen to Tyre as in the song of the prostitute: 16“Take a harp, stroll through the city, O forgotten prostitute! Play sweet melody, sing many songs, so that you may be remembered.” 17At the end of seventy years, Yahweh will visit Tyre, and she will return to her wages, and will prostitute herself with all the kingdoms of the world on the face of the earth. 18Yet her merchandise and her wages will be set apart as holy to Yahweh; they will not be stored or hoarded, for her merchandise will belong to those who dwell in the presence of Yahweh , to eat sufficiently and for fine clothing.
