Isaiah 7:10-25 — The Virgin Will Conceive
Isa.7.10-25
10Yahweh spoke again to Ahaz, saying, 11“Ask for a sign for yourself from Yahweh your God; ask it either as deep as Sheol or as high as heaven above.” 12But Ahaz said, “I will not ask, nor will I test Yahweh.” 13Then he said, "Listen now, O house of David! Is it too little for you all to try the patience of men, that you must try the patience of my God as well? 14Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call his name Immanuel . 15He will eat curds and honey by the time he knows how to reject evil and choose good. 16For before the boy knows how to reject evil and choose good, the land whose two kings you dread will be forsaken. 17Yahweh will bring upon you, upon your people, and upon your father's house, days that have not come since the day that Ephraim departed from Judah—he will bring the king of Assyria." 18On that day Yahweh will whistle for the flies at the farthest streams of the Nile, and for the bees in the land of Assyria. 19And they will all come and settle in the steep ravines, in the clefts of the rocks, on all the thornbushes, and at all the watering holes. 20On that day the Lord will use a razor hired from beyond the Euphrates River—the king of Assyria—to shave your head and the hair of your legs, and it will also consume your beard . 21On that day a man will keep alive a young cow and two sheep, 22and because of the abundance of milk they produce, he will eat curds; for everyone who remains in the land will eat curds and honey. 23On that day, every place where there used to be a thousand vines worth a thousand shekels of silver will become briers and thorns. 24Men will go there with bow and arrows, because all the land will be briers and thorns. 25As for all the hills that were once cultivated with the hoe, you will not go there because of the fear of briers and thorns; they will become a place to turn loose the oxen and trampled ground for the sheep.
