Isaiah 1:10-20 — Meaningless Offerings

Isa.1.10-20

¹⁰Hear the word of Yahweh, you leaders of Sodom! Listen to the instruction of our God, you people of Gomorrah! ¹¹“What is the multitude of your sacrifices to me?” says Yahweh. "I have had enough of burnt offerings of rams and the fat of fattened animals; and in the blood of bulls and lambs and male goats I take no delight. ¹²When you come to appear before me, who has required this from your hand, to trample my courts? ¹³Bring no more worthless offerings; incense is an abomination to me. New moon and Sabbath, the calling of convocations—I cannot endure iniquity and solemn assembly. ¹⁴My soul hates your new moons and your appointed feasts; they have become a burden to me; I am weary of bearing them. ¹⁵And when you spread out your hands, I will hide my eyes from you; even though you multiply prayer, I will not listen. Your hands are full of blood . ¹⁶Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean; remove the evil of your deeds from before my eyes; cease to do evil. ¹⁷Learn to do good; seek justice, correct the oppressor, defend the fatherless, plead for the widow. ¹⁸“Come now, and let us reason together,” says Yahweh. "Though your sins are like scarlet, they will be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they will become like wool. ¹⁹If you are willing and obey, you will eat the good of the land; ²⁰but if you refuse and rebel, you will be devoured by the sword ." For the mouth of Yahweh has spoken.
