Isaiah 5:1-7 — The Song of the Vineyard
Isa.5.1-7
1Let me sing for my beloved a song of my beloved concerning his vineyard. My beloved had a vineyard on a very fertile hill . 2He dug it up and cleared it of stones, and planted it with the choicest vine. He built a watchtower in the middle of it, and also hewed out a wine vat in it. He expected it to produce grapes, but it produced wild grapes. 3"And now, O inhabitants of Jerusalem and men of Judah, please judge between me and my vineyard. 4What more was there to do for my vineyard that I have not done in it? Why, when I expected it to produce grapes, did it produce wild grapes? 5Now let me tell you what I am about to do to my vineyard: I will remove its hedge, and it will be consumed; I will break down its wall, and it will be trampled. 6I will make it a wasteland; it will not be pruned or hoed, and briers and thorns will grow up. I will also command the clouds not to rain upon it." 7For the vineyard of Yahweh of Hosts is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah are the plantation of his delight. He expected justice, but behold, bloodshed; for righteousness, but behold, a cry of distress!
