Isaiah 55:1-13 — Invitation to the Thirsty
Isa.55.1-13
1Come, all who are thirsty, come to the waters; and whoever has no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without price . 2Why do you spend money for what is not bread, and your labor for what does not satisfy? Listen carefully to me, and eat what is good, and let your soul delight itself in rich food. 3Incline your ear and come to me; listen, so that your soul may live. And I will make with you an everlasting covenant, the faithful covenant love shown to David . 4Behold, I made him a witness to the peoples, a leader and commander for the peoples. 5Behold, you will call a nation you do not know, and a nation that did not know you will run to you, because of the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, for he has glorified you. 6Seek the LORD while he may be found; call on him while he is near. 7Let the wicked forsake his way, and the man of iniquity his thoughts; let him return to the LORD , and he will have compassion on him, and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. 8“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, and your ways are not my ways,” declares the LORD. 9For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. 10For just as the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return there without watering the earth, making it bear and sprout, and giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, 11so will my word be that goes out from my mouth: it will not return to me empty, but it will accomplish what I desire and succeed in what I sent it to do. 12For you will go out with joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and the hills will break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands. 13Instead of the thornbush the cypress will come up, and instead of the nettle the myrtle will come up; and it will be to the LORD for a name, for an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.
