Isaiah 65:1-25 — Judgment and Salvation
Isa.65.1-25
1I was sought by those who did not ask for me; I was found by those who did not seek me. I said, 'Here I am, here I am,' to a nation not called by my name. 2All day long I spread out my hands to a rebellious people, who walk in a way that is not good, following their own thoughts. 3a people who continually provoke me to my face, sacrificing in the gardens and burning incense on the bricks; 4who sit among the graves and spend the night in secret places, who eat swine's flesh, and in whose vessels is broth of unclean things; 5who say, 'Keep to yourself; do not come near me, for I am too holy for you.' These are smoke in my nose, a fire burning all day long. 6Behold, it is written before me: I will not keep silent, but I will repay; I will indeed repay into their lap, 7your iniquities and the iniquities of your fathers together, says the LORD, because they burned incense on the mountains and reproached me on the hills. So I will first measure their work into their lap. 8Thus says the LORD: As when new wine is found in the cluster and one says, 'Do not destroy it, for a blessing is in it,' so I will act for the sake of my servants, so as not to destroy them all. 9I will bring forth offspring from Jacob, and from Judah an heir of my mountains. My chosen shall inherit it, and my servants shall dwell there. 10Sharon shall become a pasture for flocks, and the Valley of Achor a resting place for herds, for my people who sought me. 11But you who forsake the LORD, who forget my holy mountain, who set a table for Gad and fill mixed wine for Meni— 12I will destine you to the sword, and all of you shall bow down to the slaughter, because I called and you did not answer, I spoke and you did not listen, but you did what was evil in my eyes and chose what I did not delight in. 13Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: Behold, my servants shall eat, but you shall be hungry; behold, my servants shall drink, but you shall be thirsty; behold, my servants shall rejoice, but you shall be put to shame. 14Behold, my servants shall sing for joy from gladness of heart, but you shall cry out from pain of heart and shall wail from a broken spirit. 15You shall leave your name as a curse for my chosen, and the Lord GOD will put you to death, but to his servants he will give another name. 16So that whoever blesses himself in the land shall bless himself by the God of faithfulness , and whoever swears in the land shall swear by the God of faithfulness, because the former troubles are forgotten and hidden from my eyes. 17For behold, I am creating new heavens and a new earth, and the former things shall not be remembered or come to mind. 18But be glad and rejoice forever in what I am creating, for behold, I am creating Jerusalem for rejoicing and her people for gladness. 19I will rejoice in Jerusalem and be glad in my people, and no more shall the sound of weeping be heard in her, or the sound of crying. 20No more shall there be in it an infant who lives only a few days, or an old man who does not fill out his days; for the youth shall die a hundred years old, and the sinner a hundred years old shall be accursed. 21They shall build houses and inhabit them; they shall plant vineyards and eat their fruit. 22They shall not build and another inhabit; they shall not plant and another eat. For like the days of a tree shall be the days of my people, and my chosen shall enjoy to the full the work of their hands. 23They shall not labor in vain or bear children for calamity, for they are the offspring of those blessed by the LORD, and their descendants with them. 24Before they call, I will answer; while they are still speaking, I will hear. 25The wolf and the lamb shall graze together, and the lion shall eat straw like the ox, and dust shall be the serpent's food. They shall not hurt or destroy in all my holy mountain, says the LORD.
