Ezekiel 47:1-23 — The River from the Temple; Boundaries
Ezek.47.1-23
1Then he brought me back to the entrance of the temple, and there was water coming out from under the threshold of the temple toward the east, for the front of the temple faced east. The water was flowing down from under the right side of the temple, on the south side of the altar. 2He brought me out by way of the north gate and led me around outside to the outer gate that faces east, and there was water trickling from the south side. 3When the man went out eastward with a measuring line in his hand, he measured off a thousand cubits and led me through the water, and it was ankle-deep. 4Again he measured off a thousand cubits and led me through the water, and it was knee-deep. Again he measured off a thousand and led me through, and it was waist-deep. 5Again he measured off a thousand, and it was a river that I could not cross, because the water had risen. It was deep enough to swim in, a river that could not be crossed. 6He said to me, “Son of man, have you seen this?” Then he led me back to the bank of the river. 7When I returned, I saw very many trees on the bank of the river, on one side and on the other. 8Then he said to me, “These waters go out to the eastern region and go down into the Arabah. When they enter the sea , its waters are healed.” 9And every living creature that swarms will live wherever the river goes. There will be a great abundance of fish, because these waters go there and the waters are healed. Everything will live wherever the river comes. 10Fishermen will stand beside it; from En-gedi to En-eglaim there will be places for spreading nets. Its fish will be of very many kinds, like the fish of the Great Sea, exceedingly many. 11But its swamps and marshes will not be healed; they will be left for salt. 12And by the river, on its bank, on this side and on that, every kind of tree for food will grow. Its leaf will not wither, and its fruit will not fail. Every month it will bear fresh fruit, because its water flows from the sanctuary. Its fruit will be for food, and its leaf for healing. 13Thus says the Lord Yahweh: "This is the boundary by which you shall divide the land as an inheritance among the twelve tribes of Israel. Joseph shall receive two portions. 14You shall inherit it equally, each like his brother, because I lifted up my hand to give it to your fathers. This land shall fall to you as an inheritance. 15And this shall be the boundary of the land: on the north side, from the Great Sea by way of Hethlon to Lebo-zedad, 16Hamath, Berothah, Sibraim, which lies between the border of Damascus and the border of Hamath, as far as Hazer-hatticon, which is on the border of Hauran. 17So the boundary shall run from the sea to Hazar-enan, at the border of Damascus, with the border of Hamath to the north. This is the north side. 18And on the east side, between Hauran and Damascus, between Gilead and the land of Israel, shall be the Jordan; from the boundary to the eastern sea you shall measure. This is the east side. 19And on the south side, southward, from Tamar to the waters of Meriboth-kadesh, to the Brook of Egypt, and to the Great Sea. This is the south side. 20And on the west side, the Great Sea shall be the boundary as far as opposite Lebo-hamath. This is the west side. 21So you shall divide this land among yourselves according to the tribes of Israel. 22You shall allot it as an inheritance for yourselves and for the sojourners who sojourn among you and have fathered children among you. They shall be to you as native-born among the children of Israel. With you they shall receive an inheritance among the tribes of Israel. 23And in whatever tribe the sojourner dwells, there you shall give him his inheritance, declares the Lord Yahweh."
