Ezekiel 34:1-31The Shepherds and the Flock

Ezek.34.1-31
1The word of the LORD came to me, saying, 2Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel. Prophesy, and say to them, to the shepherds: This is what the Lord GOD says: Woe to the shepherds of Israel who have been shepherding themselves! Should not shepherds shepherd the sheep? 3You eat the fat, you clothe yourselves with the wool, and you slaughter the fat sheep, but you do not shepherd the sheep. 4You have not strengthened the weak, healed the sick, bound up the broken, brought back the driven away, or sought the lost; instead, you have ruled them with force and harshness. 5They were scattered for lack of a shepherd, and they became food for every beast of the field; they were scattered. 6My sheep wandered on all the mountains and on every high hill. My sheep were scattered over all the face of the earth, and there was no one to seek them and no one to search for them. 7Therefore, you shepherds, hear the word of the LORD: 8As I live, declares the Lord GOD, because my sheep have become plunder and my sheep have become food for every beast of the field, for lack of a shepherd, and because my shepherds did not seek my sheep, but the shepherds shepherded themselves and did not shepherd my sheep, 9therefore, you shepherds, hear the word of the LORD: 10This is what the Lord GOD says: Behold, I am against the shepherds, and I will require my sheep from their hand and make them cease from shepherding the sheep. The shepherds shall no longer shepherd themselves, and I will deliver my sheep from their mouth, so that they will no longer be food for them. 11For this is what the Lord GOD says: Behold, I myself, yes I, will search for my sheep and care for them. 12As a shepherd cares for his herd on the day he is among his sheep that have been scattered, so I will care for my sheep. I will deliver them from all the places where they were scattered on a day of cloud and thick darkness . 13I will bring them out from the peoples, gather them from the lands, and bring them to their own land. I will shepherd them on the mountains of Israel, by the streams, and in all the inhabited places of the land. 14In good pasture I will shepherd them, and on the high mountains of Israel shall be their grazing place. There they shall lie down in a good grazing place, and they shall feed in rich pasture on the mountains of Israel. 15I myself will shepherd my sheep, and I myself will make them lie down, declares the Lord GOD. 16I will seek the lost, bring back the driven away, bind up the broken, and strengthen the sick; but the fat and the strong I will destroy. I will shepherd them with justice. 17And as for you, my sheep, this is what the Lord GOD says: Behold, I am judging between sheep and sheep, between the rams and the male goats. 18Is it too little for you to feed on the good pasture, that you must trample the rest of your pasture with your feet? And is it too little for you to drink clear water, that you must foul the rest with your feet? 19And my sheep must feed on what your feet have trampled and drink what your feet have fouled. 20Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says to them: Behold, I myself will judge between the fat sheep and the lean sheep. 21Because you push with side and shoulder, and butt all the weak with your horns until you have scattered them abroad, 22I will save my sheep, and they shall no longer be plunder, and I will judge between sheep and sheep. 23I will raise up over them one shepherd, my servant David, and he shall shepherd them. He shall shepherd them and be their shepherd. 24And I, the LORD, will be their God, and my servant David shall be prince among them. I, the LORD, have spoken. 25I will make with them a covenant of peace and cause evil beasts to cease from the land, so that they may dwell securely in the wilderness and sleep in the forests. 26I will make them and the places around my hill a blessing, and I will send down the rain in its season; there shall be showers of blessing. 27The tree of the field shall give its fruit, and the land shall give its produce, and they shall be secure on their land. Then they shall know that I am the LORD, when I break the bars of their yoke and deliver them from the hand of those who enslaved them. 28They shall no longer be plunder for the nations, and the beasts of the earth shall not devour them. They shall dwell securely, and no one shall make them afraid. 29I will raise up for them a planting of renown, and they shall no longer be consumed by famine in the land or bear the disgrace of the nations anymore. 30And they shall know that I, the LORD their God, am with them, and that they, the house of Israel, are my people, declares the Lord GOD. 31And you are my sheep, the sheep of my pasture; you are humans , and I am your God, declares the Lord GOD.
