Exodus 8:20-32The Fourth Plague: Flies

Exod.8.20-32
20Then the LORD said to Moses, “Rise early in the morning and station yourself before Pharaoh. When he goes out to the water, say to him, ‘This is what the LORD says: Let my people go, so that they may serve me. 21For if you do not let my people go, behold, I will send swarms on you, on your officials, on your people, and into your houses. The houses of the Egyptians will be filled with swarms, and even the ground on which they stand. 22But on that day I will set apart the land of Goshen, where my people dwell, so that no swarms will be there, so that you may know that I, the LORD, am in the midst of the land. 23I will put a distinction between my people and your people. This sign will happen tomorrow.’” 24And the LORD did so. Heavy swarms came into Pharaoh’s palace and into the houses of his officials, and throughout all the land of Egypt the land was laid waste because of the swarms. 25Then Pharaoh called Moses and Aaron and said, “Go, sacrifice to your God within the land.” 26But Moses said, “It would not be right to do so, for we would sacrifice to the LORD our God what the Egyptians regard as detestable . If we sacrifice before their eyes what the Egyptians regard as detestable, will they not stone us? 27We must go a three days’ journey into the wilderness and sacrifice to the LORD our God, as he tells us.” 28Pharaoh said, “I will let you go, so that you may sacrifice to the LORD your God in the wilderness; only you must not go very far. Pray for me.” 29Moses said, “Look, I am going out from you, and I will pray to the LORD, so that tomorrow the swarms may depart from Pharaoh, from his officials, and from his people. Only let Pharaoh not deceive us again by not letting the people go to sacrifice to the LORD.” 30Then Moses went out from Pharaoh and prayed to the LORD. 31And the LORD did according to Moses’ word: he removed the swarms from Pharaoh, from his officials, and from his people; not one remained. 32But Pharaoh was stubborn this time also, and he did not let the people go.
