Exodus 8:1-15 — The Second Plague: Frogs
Exod.8.1-15
1Yahweh said to Moses, “Say to Aaron, 'Stretch out your hand with your staff over the rivers, over the Nile channels, and over the marsh pools, and bring up the frogs over the land of Egypt.'” 2So Aaron stretched out his hand over the waters of Egypt, and the frogs came up and covered the land of Egypt. 3But the magicians did the same with their secret arts, and brought up frogs over the land of Egypt. 4Then Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron and said, “Plead with Yahweh to take away the frogs from me and from my people, and I will let the people go, so that they may sacrifice to Yahweh.” 5Moses said to Pharaoh, “I grant you the honor of setting the time: when shall I plead for you, for your servants, and for your people, to destroy the frogs from you and your houses, so that they remain only in the Nile?” 6He said, “Tomorrow.” And Moses said, "It will be as you say, so that you may know that there is no one like Yahweh our God. 7The frogs will depart from you, from your houses, from your servants, and from your people; they will remain only in the Nile." 8Then Moses and Aaron went out from Pharaoh, and Moses cried out to Yahweh concerning the frogs that He had brought upon Pharaoh. 9Yahweh did according to the word of Moses, and the frogs died out of the houses, the courtyards, and the fields. 10They piled them up in countless heaps, and the land stank. 11But when Pharaoh saw that there was relief, he made his heart heavy and would not listen to them, just as Yahweh had said. 12Then Yahweh said to Moses, “Say to Aaron, 'Stretch out your staff and strike the dust of the earth, so that it may become gnats throughout all the land of Egypt.'” 13They did so; Aaron stretched out his hand with his staff and struck the dust of the earth, and there were gnats on man and beast. All the dust of the earth became gnats throughout all the land of Egypt. 14The magicians tried to do the same with their secret arts to bring forth gnats, but they could not. So there were gnats on man and beast. 15Then the magicians said to Pharaoh, “This is the finger of God .” But Pharaoh's heart became stubborn, and he would not listen to them, just as Yahweh had said.
