Exodus 12:29-42The Tenth Plague: Death of Firstborn

Exod.12.29-42
29At midnight Yahweh struck every firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sat on his throne to the firstborn of the prisoner who was in the pit , and every firstborn of livestock. 30And Pharaoh rose in the night, he and all his servants and all the Egyptians, and there was a great cry in Egypt, for there was no house without someone dead. 31Then he called Moses and Aaron by night and said, “Get up, go out from among my people, both you and the Israelites; and go, serve Yahweh as you have said.” 32Take both your flocks and your herds, as you have said, and go; and bless me also. 33And the Egyptians pressed the people urgently in order to send them out of the land quickly, for they said, “We are all dead men.” 34So the people carried their dough before it was leavened, with their kneading bowls bound up in their cloaks on their shoulders. 35And the Israelites did according to the word of Moses, and they asked the Egyptians for articles of silver and articles of gold and clothing. 36And Yahweh gave the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they granted their request; thus they plundered the Egyptians. 37And the Israelites journeyed from Rameses to Succoth, about six hundred thousand men on foot, besides their dependents. 38A mixed multitude also went up with them, along with flocks and herds, a great deal of livestock. 39And they baked the dough that they had brought out of Egypt into unleavened cakes, because it had not leavened; for they had been driven out of Egypt and could not delay, and they had not prepared provisions for themselves. 40Now the time that the Israelites had lived in Egypt was four hundred and thirty years. 41And at the end of four hundred and thirty years, on that very day, all the hosts of Yahweh went out from the land of Egypt. 42It was a night of vigil for Yahweh , to bring them out from the land of Egypt. This same night is a vigil for Yahweh for all the Israelites throughout their generations.
