Exodus 22:16-31 — Social Responsibilities
Exod.22.16-31
16If a man seduces a virgin who is not engaged to be married, and lies with her, he must pay the bride price for her to be his wife. 17If her father absolutely refuses to give her to him, he must weigh out silver equal to the bride price for virgins. 18You must not allow a sorceress to live. 19Whoever lies with an animal shall surely be put to death. 20Whoever sacrifices to any god, other than to Yahweh alone, must be devoted to destruction . 21You must not wrong a resident alien or oppress him, for you were resident aliens in the land of Egypt. 22You must not afflict any widow or orphan. 23If you afflict them at all, and they cry out to me, I will surely hear their cry; 24and my anger will burn, and I will kill you with the sword ; then your wives will become widows, and your children will be orphans. 25If you lend money to any of my people, to the poor among you, you must not act as a creditor to him; you must not charge him interest. 26If you take your neighbor's cloak as a pledge, you must return it to him before the sun goes down, 27for it is his only covering; it is his cloak for his body. What else will he sleep in? And it will happen that when he cries out to me, I will hear, for I am compassionate. 28You must not revile God , nor curse a ruler among your people. 29You must not delay to offer from the abundance of your harvest and the outflow of your presses. You must give the firstborn of your sons to me. 30You must do the same with your oxen and your sheep. Seven days it shall stay with its mother, but on the eighth day you must give it to me. 31You shall be holy men to me. You must not eat any meat torn by wild animals in the field; you must throw it to the dogs.
