Exodus 40:1-38 — Setting Up the Tabernacle
Exod.40.1-38
1Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, 2On the first day of the first month you shall set up the tabernacle of the Tent of Meeting. 3You shall put the Ark of the testimony there, and you shall screen the Ark with the veil. 4You shall bring in the table and arrange what belongs on it. You shall bring in the lampstand and set up its lamps. 5You shall place the gold altar for incense before the Ark of the testimony, and you shall set the screen for the entrance of the tabernacle. 6You shall place the altar of burnt offering before the entrance of the tabernacle of the Tent of Meeting. 7You shall place the basin between the Tent of Meeting and the altar, and you shall put water in it. 8You shall set up the court all around, and you shall place the screen for the gate of the court. 9You shall take the anointing oil and anoint the tabernacle and all that is in it, and you shall consecrate it and all its furnishings, and it shall be holy. 10You shall anoint the altar of burnt offering and all its utensils, and you shall consecrate the altar, and the altar shall be most holy. 11You shall anoint the basin and its stand and consecrate it. 12You shall bring Aaron and his sons to the entrance of the Tent of Meeting, and you shall wash them with water. 13You shall clothe Aaron with the holy garments, and you shall anoint him and consecrate him, that he may serve me as priest. 14You shall bring his sons near and clothe them with tunics. 15You shall anoint them just as you anointed their father, so that they may serve me as priests. Their anointing shall be for them an everlasting priesthood throughout their generations. 16Moses did according to all that Yahweh had commanded him; so he did. 17And in the first month of the second year, on the first day of the month, the tabernacle was set up. 18Moses set up the tabernacle. He placed its bases, set up its boards, inserted its bars, and raised up its pillars. 19He spread the tent over the tabernacle and placed the covering of the tent over it above, just as Yahweh had commanded Moses. 20He took the testimony and put it into the Ark, set the poles on the Ark, and placed the mercy seat on the Ark above. 21He brought the Ark into the tabernacle, set up the veil of the screen, and screened the Ark of the testimony, just as Yahweh had commanded Moses. 22He placed the table in the Tent of Meeting, on the north side of the tabernacle, outside the veil. 23He arranged the bread on it before Yahweh, just as Yahweh had commanded Moses. 24He placed the lampstand in the Tent of Meeting opposite the table, on the south side of the tabernacle. 25He set up the lamps before Yahweh, just as Yahweh had commanded Moses. 26He placed the gold altar in the Tent of Meeting before the veil. 27He burned fragrant incense on it, just as Yahweh had commanded Moses. 28He set the screen for the entrance of the tabernacle. 29He placed the altar of burnt offering at the entrance of the tabernacle of the Tent of Meeting, and he offered on it the burnt offering and the grain offering, just as Yahweh had commanded Moses. 30He placed the basin between the Tent of Meeting and the altar, and he put water in it for washing. 31From it Moses and Aaron and his sons washed their hands and their feet. 32Whenever they entered the Tent of Meeting, and whenever they approached the altar, they washed, just as Yahweh had commanded Moses. 33He set up the court around the tabernacle and the altar, and placed the screen for the gate of the court. So Moses finished the work. 34Then the cloud covered the Tent of Meeting, and the glory of Yahweh filled the tabernacle. 35Moses was not able to enter the Tent of Meeting, because the cloud had settled on it and the glory of Yahweh filled the tabernacle. 36Whenever the cloud was taken up from over the tabernacle, the children of Israel would set out throughout all their journeys. 37But if the cloud was not taken up, then they did not set out until the day it was taken up. 38For the cloud of Yahweh was over the tabernacle by day, and fire was in it by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel throughout all their journeys.
