Exodus 30:1-38The Altar of Incense and Other Items

Exod.30.1-38
1You shall make an altar as a place for burning incense; you shall make it of acacia wood. 2Its length shall be a cubit , and its width a cubit; it shall be square, and its height shall be two cubits. Its horns shall be of one piece with it. 3You shall overlay it with pure gold—its top, its sides all around, and its horns—and you shall make a gold molding all around it. 4You shall make two gold rings for it under its molding; on its two opposite sides you shall make them, and they shall serve as holders for poles with which to carry it. 5You shall make the poles of acacia wood and overlay them with gold. 6You shall put it in front of the veil that is before the ark of the Testimony, in front of the mercy seat that is over the Testimony, where I will meet with you. 7Aaron shall burn fragrant incense on it; every morning when he tends the lamps, he shall burn it. 8And when Aaron sets up the lamps at twilight, he shall burn it, a perpetual incense before Yahweh throughout your generations. 9You shall not offer unauthorized incense on it, or a burnt offering, or a grain offering; and you shall not pour a drink offering on it. 10Aaron shall make atonement on its horns once a year; with the blood of the sin offering of atonement, once a year he shall make atonement on it throughout your generations. It is most holy to Yahweh. 11Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, 12When you take a census of the Israelites to register them, then each man shall give a ransom for his life to Yahweh when you count them, so that there will be no plague among them when you count them. 13This is what everyone who crosses over to those being counted shall give: half a shekel, according to the shekel of the sanctuary (the shekel is twenty gerahs); half a shekel as an offering to Yahweh. 14Everyone who crosses over to those being counted, from twenty years old and upward, shall give the offering to Yahweh. 15The rich shall not give more, and the poor shall not give less, than the half shekel, when they give the offering to Yahweh to make atonement for your lives. 16You shall take the atonement money from the Israelites and give it for the service of the Tent of Meeting, that it may be a memorial for the Israelites before Yahweh, to make atonement for your lives. 17Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, 18You shall make a bronze basin with its bronze stand for washing. You shall put it between the Tent of Meeting and the altar, and you shall put water in it. 19Aaron and his sons shall wash their hands and their feet from it. 20When they enter the Tent of Meeting, they shall wash with water, so that they do not die ; or when they approach the altar to minister, to burn a food offering to Yahweh. 21They shall wash their hands and their feet, so that they do not die. It shall be a perpetual statute for them, for him and for his descendants throughout their generations. 22Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, 23Take for yourself the finest spices: five hundred shekels of liquid myrrh, half as much—two hundred and fifty—of fragrant cinnamon, two hundred and fifty of fragrant cane, 24five hundred of cassia, according to the shekel of the sanctuary, and a hin of olive oil. 25You shall make it into a holy anointing oil, a fragrant blend, the work of a perfumer; it shall be a holy anointing oil. 26You shall anoint the Tent of Meeting with it, and the ark of the Testimony, 27the table and all its utensils, the lampstand and its utensils, the altar of incense, 28the altar of burnt offering and all its utensils, and the basin and its stand. 29You shall consecrate them, that they may be most holy; whatever touches them shall become holy. 30You shall anoint Aaron and his sons, and consecrate them to minister as priests to me. 31You shall speak to the Israelites, saying, 'This shall be a holy anointing oil to me throughout your generations. 32It shall not be poured on human flesh, and you shall not make anything like it with its same formula. It is holy, and it shall be holy to you. 33Whoever compounds anything like it, or whoever puts any of it on an outsider, shall be cut off from his people.' 34Yahweh said to Moses, 'Take for yourself fragrant spices: gum resin, onycha, and galbanum—fragrant spices with pure frankincense; there shall be an equal part of each. 35You shall make it into incense, a fragrant blend, the work of a perfumer, seasoned with salt, pure and holy. 36You shall grind some of it into fine powder, and put some of it in front of the Testimony in the Tent of Meeting, where I will meet with you; it shall be most holy to you. 37The incense which you shall make, you shall not make for yourselves according to its formula; it shall be holy to you for Yahweh. 38Whoever makes anything like it to enjoy its fragrance shall be cut off from his people.'
