Exodus 38:1-31 — The Altar and the Courtyard

¹He made the altar of burnt offering of acacia wood. Five cubits was its length, and five cubits its width—it was square—and three cubits its height. ²He made its horns on its four corners; its horns were of one piece with it, and he overlaid it with bronze. ³He made all the utensils of the altar: the pots, the shovels, the basins, the meat forks, and the firepans. He made all its utensils of bronze. ⁴He made for the altar a grating, a network of bronze, under its ledge, beneath, reaching halfway up. ⁵He cast four rings on the four corners of the bronze grating, as holders for the poles. ⁶He made the poles of acacia wood and overlaid them with bronze. ⁷He put the poles into the rings on the sides of the altar, with which to carry it. He made it hollow with boards. ⁸He made the bronze basin and its bronze stand from the mirrors of the ministering women who ministered at the entrance of the tent of meeting. ⁹He made the courtyard. For the south side, the hangings of the courtyard were of fine twined linen, one hundred cubits long; ¹⁰their twenty posts and their twenty bases were of bronze; the hooks of the posts and their bands were of silver. ¹¹For the north side, one hundred cubits; their twenty posts and their twenty bases were of bronze; the hooks of the posts and their bands were of silver. ¹²For the west side, there were hangings of fifty cubits, with their ten posts and their ten bases; the hooks of the posts and their bands were of silver. ¹³For the east side, toward the sunrise, fifty cubits. ¹⁴The hangings for one side of the gate were fifteen cubits, with their three posts and their three bases; ¹⁵and for the other side—on this side and that side of the gate of the courtyard—were hangings of fifteen cubits, with their three posts and their three bases. ¹⁶All the hangings around the courtyard were of fine twined linen . ¹⁷The bases for the posts were of bronze, the hooks of the posts and their bands were of silver, and the overlaying of their tops was of silver; and all the posts of the courtyard were banded with silver. ¹⁸The screen for the gate of the courtyard was the work of an embroiderer, of blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, and fine twined linen. Its length was twenty cubits, and its height along its width was five cubits, corresponding to the hangings of the courtyard. ¹⁹Their posts were four, and their bases four, of bronze; their hooks were of silver, and the overlaying of their tops and their bands were of silver. ²⁰All the pegs for the tabernacle and for the courtyard around it were of bronze. ²¹These are the records of the tabernacle, the tabernacle of the Testimony, as they were recorded at the command of Moses, for the service of the Levites, under the direction of Ithamar the son of Aaron the priest. ²²Bezalel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, made all that Yahweh commanded Moses. ²³With him was Oholiab the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan, an engraver, a designer, and an embroiderer in blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, and in fine linen. ²⁴All the gold that was used for the work, in all the work of the sanctuary—the gold of the wave offering—was twenty-nine talents and seven hundred thirty shekels, according to the sanctuary shekel . ²⁵The silver from those of the congregation who were recorded was one hundred talents and one thousand seven hundred seventy-five shekels, according to the sanctuary shekel: ²⁶a beka per head, that is, half a shekel, according to the sanctuary shekel, for everyone who crossed over to those who were recorded, from twenty years old and upward, for six hundred three thousand five hundred fifty men. ²⁷The one hundred talents of silver were for casting the bases of the sanctuary and the bases of the veil; one hundred bases for the one hundred talents, a talent for a base. ²⁸From the one thousand seven hundred seventy-five shekels he made hooks for the posts, overlaid their tops, and made bands for them. ²⁹The bronze of the wave offering was seventy talents and two thousand four hundred shekels. ³⁰With it he made the bases for the entrance of the tent of meeting, the bronze altar, the bronze grating for it, and all the utensils of the altar, ³¹the bases for the courtyard around it, the bases for the gate of the courtyard, all the pegs of the tabernacle, and all the pegs of the courtyard around it.
