Exodus 13:17-14:4Crossing the Sea

Exod.13.17-14.4
17When Pharaoh let the people go, God did not lead them along the road through the land of the Philistines, even though it was near. For God said, “If the people face war, they might change their minds and return to Egypt.” 18So God led the people around by the way of the wilderness toward the Red Sea. And the Israelites went up armed out of the land of Egypt. 19Moses took the bones of Joseph with him, because Joseph had made the Israelites swear a solemn oath, saying, “God will surely attend to you, and then you must carry my bones up from here with you.” 20They set out from Succoth and camped at Etham , on the edge of the wilderness. 21The LORD went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to guide them on the way, and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so that they could travel by day and by night. 22The pillar of cloud by day and the pillar of fire by night did not depart from before the people .
Chapter 14
1Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 2"Tell the Israelites to turn back and camp in front of Pi-hahiroth, between Migdol and the sea. You are to camp by the sea, directly opposite Baal-zephon . 3For Pharaoh will say of the Israelites, 'They are wandering in confusion in the land; the wilderness has closed in on them.' 4I will harden Pharaoh's heart, and he will pursue them . But I will gain glory through Pharaoh and all his army, and the Egyptians will know that I am the LORD." And the Israelites did so.
