Exodus 6:28-7:13 — Aaron's Staff Becomes a Snake

Exod.6.28-7.13

²⁸On the day when the LORD spoke to Moses in the land of Egypt, ²⁹the LORD said to Moses, “I am the LORD. Speak to Pharaoh king of Egypt all that I tell you.” ³⁰But Moses said before the LORD, “Look, I am poor in speech ; why then would Pharaoh listen to me?”

Chapter 7

¹Then the LORD said to Moses, "See, I have made you like God to Pharaoh, and Aaron your brother will be your prophet. ²You are to speak all that I command you, and Aaron your brother is to speak to Pharaoh, so that he will let the Israelites go out of his land. ³But I will harden Pharaoh's heart, and I will multiply my signs and my wonders in the land of Egypt. ⁴Pharaoh will not listen to you. Then I will lay my hand on Egypt and bring my armies, my people, the Israelites, out of the land of Egypt by great acts of judgment. ⁵And the Egyptians will know that I am the LORD when I stretch out my hand against Egypt and bring the Israelites out from among them." ⁶Moses and Aaron did this; just as the LORD had commanded them, so they did. ⁷Now Moses was eighty years old, and Aaron eighty-three years old, when they spoke to Pharaoh. ⁸Then the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, ⁹“When Pharaoh says to you, 'Show a wonder for yourselves,' then you shall say to Aaron, 'Take your staff and throw it down before Pharaoh, and it will become a serpent.'” ¹⁰So Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and did just as the LORD had commanded. Aaron threw his staff down before Pharaoh and before his servants, and it became a serpent. ¹¹Then Pharaoh also called for the wise men and the sorcerers, and they too, the magicians of Egypt, did the same by their secret arts. ¹²Each one threw down his staff, and they became serpents. But Aaron's staff swallowed their staffs. ¹³But Pharaoh's heart was hardened , and he would not listen to them, just as the LORD had spoken.
