Exodus 6:28-7:13 — Aaron's Staff Becomes a Snake
Exod.6.28-7.13
28On the day when the LORD spoke to Moses in the land of Egypt, 29the LORD said to Moses, “I am the LORD. Speak to Pharaoh king of Egypt all that I tell you.” 30But Moses said before the LORD, “Look, I am poor in speech ; why then would Pharaoh listen to me?”
Chapter 7
1Then the LORD said to Moses, "See, I have made you like God to Pharaoh, and Aaron your brother will be your prophet. 2You are to speak all that I command you, and Aaron your brother is to speak to Pharaoh, so that he will let the Israelites go out of his land. 3But I will harden Pharaoh's heart, and I will multiply my signs and my wonders in the land of Egypt. 4Pharaoh will not listen to you. Then I will lay my hand on Egypt and bring my armies, my people, the Israelites, out of the land of Egypt by great acts of judgment. 5And the Egyptians will know that I am the LORD when I stretch out my hand against Egypt and bring the Israelites out from among them." 6Moses and Aaron did this; just as the LORD had commanded them, so they did. 7Now Moses was eighty years old, and Aaron eighty-three years old, when they spoke to Pharaoh. 8Then the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, 9“When Pharaoh says to you, 'Show a wonder for yourselves,' then you shall say to Aaron, 'Take your staff and throw it down before Pharaoh, and it will become a serpent.'” 10So Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and did just as the LORD had commanded. Aaron threw his staff down before Pharaoh and before his servants, and it became a serpent. 11Then Pharaoh also called for the wise men and the sorcerers, and they too, the magicians of Egypt, did the same by their secret arts. 12Each one threw down his staff, and they became serpents. But Aaron's staff swallowed their staffs. 13But Pharaoh's heart was hardened , and he would not listen to them, just as the LORD had spoken. Translation Notes
