Mark 2:23-3:6 — Jesus Is Lord of the Sabbath

Mark.2.23-3.6

²³And it happened that he was passing through the grainfields on the Sabbath, and his disciples began to make their way, picking the heads of grain. ²⁴And the Pharisees were saying to him, “Look, why are they doing on the Sabbath what is not lawful?” ²⁵And he says to them, "Have you never read what David did when he had need and was hungry, he and those with him? ²⁶how he entered into the house of God in the time of Abiathar the high priest and ate the bread of the Presence , which is not lawful to eat except for the priests, and gave it also to those who were with him?" ²⁷And he was saying to them, "The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath. ²⁸Therefore the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath."

Chapter 3

¹And he entered again into a synagogue, and a man was there having a withered hand. ²And they were watching him closely to see if he would heal him on the Sabbath, so that they might accuse him. ³And he says to the man having the withered hand, “Stand up in the middle.” ⁴And he says to them, “Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do evil, to save a life or to kill?” But they were silent. ⁵And looking around at them with anger, being grieved at the hardness of their heart, he says to the man, “Stretch out the hand.” And he stretched it out, and his hand was restored . ⁶And the Pharisees went out immediately with the Herodians and began plotting against him, so that they might destroy him.
