Mark 14:53-72Jesus Before the Sanhedrin; Peter Disowns Jesus

Mark.14.53-72
53They led Jesus away to the high priest, and all the chief priests, the elders, and the scribes assembled. 54Peter had followed him at a distance, right into the courtyard of the high priest. He was sitting with the officers and warming himself by the light of the fire. 55Now the chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were seeking testimony against Jesus in order to put him to death, but they were not finding any. 56For many were giving false testimony against him, but their testimonies were not consistent. 57Then some stood up and gave false testimony against him, saying, 58“We heard him say, 'I will destroy this temple made with hands, and in three days I will build another not made with hands.'” 59Yet even in this their testimony was not consistent. 60Then the high priest stood up in the middle and questioned Jesus, saying, “Do you answer nothing? What is it that these men are testifying against you?” 61But he was silent and did not answer anything. Again the high priest questioned him and said to him, “Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?” 62Jesus said, “I am, and you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of the Power and coming with the clouds of heaven.” 63Then the high priest tore his garments and said, "What further need do we have of witnesses? 64You have heard the blasphemy. What seems right to you?" And they all condemned him as deserving death. 65Then some began to spit on him, to cover his face, to strike him, and to say to him, “Prophesy!” And the officers received him with blows . 66While Peter was below in the courtyard, one of the servant girls of the high priest came, 67and seeing Peter warming himself, she looked at him and said, “You too were with Jesus the Nazarene.” 68But he denied it, saying, “I neither know nor understand what you are talking about.” Then he went out into the entryway . 69And the servant girl, seeing him, began again to say to those standing there, “This man is one of them.” 70But again he denied it. After a little while those standing there again said to Peter, “Surely you are one of them, because you are a Galilean, and your way of speaking matches theirs .” 71But he began to call down curses and to swear, “I do not know this man you are talking about.” 72And immediately the rooster crowed a second time. Then Peter remembered the word, how Jesus had said to him, “Before a rooster crows twice, you will deny me three times .” And he broke down and wept.
